Shibuya x Chinese x World Dumpling Situation] @ Seiryumon Shibuya

2024.04.19

This is the third installment of the prologue. [What is the situation of dumplings in the world...]

Although dumplings originated in China, they are loved around the world and have developed their own unique variations in different regions.

Korean mandu is another Asian dumpling, characterized by its spicy flavor with kimchi and tofu. It is best enjoyed with aromatic soup.
There are many other dumpling cultures in Asia, such as "Khao Soi" in Thailand and "Baing Seo" in Vietnam. The use of local ingredients and seasonings, and the fusion of tradition and innovation are the hallmarks of this cuisine.
In Europe, for example, there are dumplings called "perimeni" in regions such as Russia and Ukraine. These are small, round shapes, stuffed with a filling of mostly beef, pork or chicken, and served with sour cream or vinegar.
Similar dishes of dumplings can also be found in the Middle East region. In Turkey, it is called "muntu" and is generally made with lamb or beef and features a spicy filling.
Furthermore, in Argentina and Brazil in South America, there is a dumpling-like dish called "empanada. This dish is made by stuffing meat and vegetables into a dough made of flour and baking or frying it, using various ingredients and seasonings depending on the region.
As these examples show, dumplings are loved in many different forms around the world, with variations reflecting the food culture and ingredients of each region.

To be continued in the next issue. Enjoy 😉.
